Janome Supplies Required
Any Janome Sewing machine
Satin Stitch foot F
Narrow Base Zipper foot
Janome Metallic thread (#M003 Gold)
Janome Bobbin thread
Red Tip needle 90/14

Fabric and Notions Required Note: Add seam allowances to all fabric measurements listed
14 ¾” x 8” organza (for cylinder)
14” x 13” organza (for cuff)
1/3 yd. brocade fabric
6 ½” x 14” lining fabric
1 yd. narrow piping cord
Iron-on stiffener (the type used for curtain tie-backs)
All purpose thread

Fabric Preparation
Note: Add seam allowances to all fabric measurements
1. Download the Christmas Stocking Bottle Caddy Toe Flap pattern and Pattern Layout.
2. Cut out the Toe Flap from the brocade and lining fabric using the pattern.
3. Cut out the Toe Flap from the iron-on stiffener using the pattern. (Do not add seam allowances).
4. Fuse the Toe Flap stiffening to Toe Flap brocade piece.
5. Cut seven 1 ¼” x 8” strips of stiffening for appliqué stripes on cylinder.
6. Cut seven 1 ¼” x 8” strips of stiffening for fusing to brocade cylinder in vertical strips. (Do not add seam allowances).
7. Lay the 1 ¼” x 8” brocade strips onto cut strips of stiffener. Fuse together.
8. To neaten, fold over seam allowances of brocade to wrong sides on both long edges of each 1 ¼” x 8” strip.
9. Cut two 2” x 14” pieces from the brocade for finishing cylinder top.
10. Cut one 4” x 14” piece of brocade for binding cylinder base.
11. Cut two 2” x 14” pieces of iron-on stiffener for top and base of cylinder. (Do not add seam allowances).
12. Lay one 2” x 14” brocade strip onto one cut strip of stiffener for cylinder top. Fuse together.
13. For binding base of cylinder, fold together long ends of 4” x 14” brocade strip.
14. Lay remaining 2” x 14” cut strip of stiffener onto wrong side of the base brocade binding against the fold line. Fuse together.
15. Cut bias strips for six rouleau loops from the brocade. Finished loops to be 1” x ¼”. Make loops by sewing long ends of strips together with right sides facing and turning through.
16. Cut bias strips for two rouleau loops from contrast fabric. Finished loops to be 1” x ¼”. Make loops by sewing long ends of strips together with right sides facing and turning through.
17. Cut bias strip for contrast lace. Finished size is approximately 30” x ¼”. Make lace by sewing long ends of strips together with right sides facing and turning through.
18. Cut bias strip for contrast piping approximately 40” x 1”.
Hint: Stiffener is often adhesive on both sides. Use paper to prevent adhesive from bonding to ironing board.
Construction
Toe Flap 1. Set up the sewing machine for Ordinary Sewing.
2. Attach Standard foot A.
3. Use the two contrast rouleau loops. Sew to the short ends on either end of the Toe Flap, facing inward, on right side of the brocade.
4. Attach the Narrow Base Zipper foot.
5. Cover piping cord with contrast bias strip of contrasting fabric.
6. Sew piping around all edges of Toe Flap along seam allowances. Be sure the finished edge of piping faces inward.
7. Sew the lining to the toe flap, right sides together. Leave a small opening for turning.
8. Turn right side out. Hand stitch opening closed.

Cylinder
1. Thread the needle with Janome Metallic thread and the bobbin with Janome bobbin thread.
2. Attach the Satin Stitch foot F.
3. Select a decorative stitch. Deborah used Patchwork stitch #94 on the MC100001.
Hint: A zigzag stitch can be used if no other options are available. 4. Lay stiffened brocade strips onto organza in vertical rows following the downloaded Cylinder Pattern Layout.
5. Stitch along both edges of each strip to position. Leave outside edge of each end panel open to insert rouleau loops for lacing.
6. To finish the base of the cylinder: Sew the folded 4” x 14” brocade binding strip to base of cylinder, right sides facing, concealing the raw edges. Finished size of binding is 2” wide. Hand or machine stitch open end of binding to complete.
7. To finish top end of cylinder before attaching cuff: With right sides together, sandwich work between remaining two binding strips (2” x 14”) on the top edge. Leave top ends of band open to insert cuff.

Cuff
1. Lay the contrasting organza strip on the organza cuff to form band, raw edges together following the downloaded Organza Cuff pattern layout.
2. Stitch along edges of contrast organza, as done with the Cylinder above, using a decorative stitch if required.
3. Fold Cuff in half with the right sides together.
4. Stitch along the short edges.
5. Turn to right side and press.
6. Attach Cuff to Cylinder by inserting into open edge of top binding.

Finishing Touches
1. Before joining cylinder together, insert brocade rouleau loops for the lacing to be threaded through.
2. Insert three brocade loops between organza and brocade vertical panels on each outside edge of last brocade panel. Be sure to space evenly.
3. Stitch final decorative row of stitching to finish brocade panels and to secure inserted rouleau loops.
4. Sew the Cylinder panel together overlapping end organza panels to form a tube using a decorative stitch.
Note: Be patient with this step, it can be a challenge. Finished diameter is 14” when joined. 5. Thread lacing through loops as in sample.
6. Start and end your lacing using the Toe flap loops on opposite sides of the Toe Flap. This will attach Cylinder to Toe Flap.
7. Tie lacing and knot the ends.
