In DigitizerPro, the Resequence Tool is one of the most effective tools in the software. It provides the ability to select an object, making it so easy to modify embroidery.

To see this great feature, we will use the Swan.jan design from the Embroidery Album.

To open the design, click the Open icon on the Standard tool bar.

OR Click File, Open...

The Open dialog box will appear.

Note: If you are not seeing the Embroidery Album, you must change the Look in: box to point to the Embroidery Album folder. Click the down arrow in the Look in: box to get the map of your computer. Double click C:\Embroidery Album.

The Swan design is in .jan format (please see Lesson #10 Object Files, Stitch Files for more information), so it will show in the list of designs because the Files of type: box defaults to .jan.

Scroll to Swan.Jan to click it. When you click it once, it will highlight and show in the Preview window. Once seen, you can click the Open button to bring it to your design screen.

Note: You can double-click on the file name to bring it to the design window without previewing it.

A feature in Digitizer Pro is the ability to change the hoop size from the design screen. Since we are planning to sew this design in a Memory Craft 11000 ST (standard) hoop (which has the same dimensions as hoop A for the MC10001, 10000, 9700, 9500, and 300E), we will change to that hoop.

To change the hoop, click the down arrow in the hoop box and click the hoop you choose.

If you are not seeing the hoop surrounding the swan design, press the number 1 key on your keyboard. This action will change the magnification to 100% and allow you to see how the design will be placed in the hoop.

Note: If you are not seeing the hoop, you may have the hoop icon toggled to off. Click the hoop icon to turn it on.

To turn on the Resequence tool, click the Resequence icon.

The Resequence dialog will appear.

The Resequence dialog has two ways of showing the sequence of embroidery in the design. One of the ways, as shown above, presents the sequence of embroidery as objects.

Note: if you are not seeing the sequence of objects, click the toggle button at the top of the dialog to change from Colors to Objects.

Seeing the sequence of embroidery as objects can be very helpful. For example, if you wish to select a specific object, you can isolate that object in the sequence.

Click the fourth object in the sequence. That object will select and highlight on the design screen.

Note: If you are not seeing the object highlighted, click the Visualizer icon to toggle it off.

Notice that along with each object, you are also seeing its type. The fourth object is shown as being an object that was created with the Turning Angle Fill tool.

The dialog box can be expanded to show more information. Click the Expand button at the upper left.

The dialog will expand. Now you can see the fill type (satin stitch) and the number of stitches in the object:

Sometimes, it is easier to modify designs when working with the color sequence of the embroidery. To see the color sequence, click the toggle button at the top of the dialog to Colors. There are five colors in the Swan embroidery.

We are going to modify the Swan design by

adding more grass
changing the sequence of sewing
changing the color of the water
centering the design

Let's see how easy this will be using the Resequence dialog.

Add more grass Click the color green in the sequence. All green objects, which in this embroidery is the grass, will highlight and select.

In order to add more grass, we will copy the grass that has been selected. Digitizer Pro has a duplicate function that makes copying very easy. Right click the selected area and drag it to the left. The duplicated grass will now be added to the embroidery.

Notice that a green color block has been added to the sequence. This is because the new grass has been added to the end of the embroidery. Let's make the grass taller. Slide your cursor over the top middle reference point (in the red circle in the illustration) until it becomes a double arrow.

Click and drag upwards until the grass is elongated. We'll add one more tuft of grass. Click the first green box in the Resequence dialog again. Right click and drag it to the left of the tall grass.
Change the Sequence of Sewing/Combine Colors The two tufts of grass that were added will sew at the end of the design. If left this way, they will sew over the swan. However, if they were combined with the first tuft of grass, the added grass will sew right after the original grass. This accomplishes two things: first, all the grass will sew as the first element in the embroidery, and second, all the green will sew together, eliminating a color change. Combining the colors and resequencing the embroidery is as simple as a few clicks of the mouse!

Click the bottom green box to highlight it. Notice that the arrow keys at the bottom of the dialog have turned on. Because we highlighted the bottom color, only the up arrows have activated because we can't move the new grass embroidery further down in the sequence. The first arrow is a double up arrow. If you click it, the bottom color will move to the top of the sequence. In other words, the middle tuft of grass will sew, then the left tuft, then the original right tuft.

Instead, we want the bottom green, representing the center and left tufts of grass, to combine after the original grass. Click the second arrow, the single up arrow. Click this arrow four times. Each time you click this arrow, the green will move above the color before it. At the last click, the colors will combine into one box.

Note: There is a second method of combining the colors together in which you don't use the arrows at all, but instead click on the color and drag it up. If you'd like to try it, first click the Undo icon to undo the color combine.
Change the Color of the Water
Because clicking on a color will select all embroidery in that color, we can select the blue of the water in the Resequence dialog to change the color. Click the blue color 217. The water will become selected.

Click the Current Color icon. The thread palette will appear.

Click color 222 Ocean Blue. The thread color will change. While the water is still selected, drag it left so that the grass is evenly distributed above it.
Center the design The leftmost leaf of grass has extended beyond the red box. For Janome users, the design will need to be centered and wholly within the sewing area represented by the red box. Click a point above and to the left of the design, then drag a box down and to the right of the design, keeping your finger on the mouse button. When you lift your finger off the mouse button, the entire design will be selected.

To center the design, click anywhere on the selected area, then drag the design left or right. Centering lines will appear.

Keeping your finger on the mouse button, continue to drag the design until the centering lines match the center lines on the design screen. When the lines match, they will fade, and the design will be centered on the screen.
