Note: This feature, in which Windows launches EasyDesign software by opening the embroidery file, is not applicable to Digitizer Pro/Mb.
It is an easy matter to link a specific file type with software so that the software will open that file type automatically. We do this through My Computer.
Many Janome users have Customizer 10000/Plus and Digitizer 10000. If you select an embroidery design with .jef format, it may open in EasyImport when you would prefer to have it open in EasyDesign. Associating the .jef format with EasyDesign will do this for you.
Double click My Computer on your desktop.
Click Tools, Folder Options...
The Folder Options dialog box will appear. Click the File Types tab.
All the file types that have ever been used by your computer will be listed in alphabetical order. Scroll down until you find JEF.
The dialog box is telling us that the JEF file type will open with EasyImport. To change the program, clickthe Change... button.
The Open With dialog box will appear. At the top of the box, it will show you recommended programs with which to open this file type.
This is the program icon for Digitizer 10000.
If JANOME is not one of the Recommended Programs, you can scroll down to see Other programs. If it is still not in the list of programs, click the Browse... button.
The Open With Dialog box will appear. We need to point to the Digitizer 10000 program, so we must maneuver to the Digitizer 10000 path: C:\Digitizer 10000\Bin\Janome.exe.
Click JANOME.EXE to highlight it. Click the Open button.
You will return to the Open With dialog box with JANOME highlighted.
If it is not already checked, click a check mark in the Always use... box.
Click OK to make the association.
You will return to the Folder Options dialog box. You will see the JEF file format will now open with JANOME program.
Click Close. Close My Computer.
You can use this method to associate any file type to software, such as graphic files or word processing documents.
