Creating an Embroidery Layout

A. Creating an Embroidery Layout

An embroidery layout is multiple embroidery designs grouped together to form a pleasing arrangement.

1. Open EasyEdit as described in Lesson #1.

2. To import a design, we can either click the Import icon

OR

click File, Import Design.

Either way will bring up the Open/Import Files dialog box.

3. The designs we want are in the Children's Designs folder. The path is C:\Program Files\Janome\Customizer 10000 Plus\MCnnnn\EasyEdit Designs\Children's Designs 

4. Click Train engine1 once to see it in the Preview box. Click Open to bring it to the design screen.

5. Using the centering lines as a guide, drag the engine to the left side of the screen. 

6. Click the Import icon.

7. Bring the Train car to the screen. Drag it and position it behind the engine.

8. While the train car has a box around it, meaning it is selected, click the Copy icon.

9. Click the Paste icon to bring a second train car to the screen. Drag it and position it behind the first train car.

10. Continue clicking the Paste icon to bring five train cars to the screen. 

11.To complete our layout, we'll bring in an airplane. Click the Import icon. Click Airplane2.

12. We have seven embroideries in our layout. To create our template, click File, Print Preview.



Note: As our template shows, there are seven embroideries, each one marked by its number in the sequence that it was brought to the screen. If we were to transfer this layout to the MemoryCraft right now, we would transfer seven embroidery designs, each design having the number corresponding to its number in the layout.

Because we have our template and the Clothsetter, we know the embroidery will sew exactly as we created it in our layout.

13. Click the Close button.

B. Combining Designs

EasyEdit has a wonderful feature that allows us to combine designs together to minimize the number of hoopings we would have to do. EasyEdit allows you to choose which hoop best fits your design and layout needs. This lesson features the B hoop; because it is the largest hoop, it allows as many embroidery designs as possible.

1. To choose the hoop, click Edit, Hoop Size, Large Hoop B.

2. To choose which embroideries to combine, click the Combine icon

OR

Click Edit, Combine.

Either way will bring a box the size of the B hoop to the design screen.

3. The box has a light dotted line around it and usually comes to the screen on the left side. 

4. Click on the box and drag it over the train engine and the first two train cars. The embroideries will gray out, showing they all fit in the B hoop. 

5. When you lift your finger off the mouse button, you will get a confirmation box: 

6. Click Yes to combine the designs.

7. Click on the B-hoop combine box and move it over the last three train cars and the airplane.

8. These designs will gray out. Click Yes to combine them, also.

9. We have now combined seven embroideries into two B-hoop sized designs. If we were to transfer the layout to the screen now, we would only transfer two designs!

10. To see the template, click File, Print Preview.

11. Click Close.

C. Saving Layout Files

Since we worked hard at creating our layout, we may want to use it again. EasyEdit gives us the ability to save the layout.

1. Click File, Save As...

2. The Save As dialog box will appear.

3. Layout files have a file extension of .caf (Customizer Arrangement File). We can give the layout a name. Type Train in the File Name box.

4. A folder called My Designs was installed with the Customizer 10000 Plus software. It is for your use to save designs that you create in the Customizer Plus programs. Point to My Designs in the Save in: box.,

5. Click Save.

D. Transferring Designs

The manner in which you transfer designs to the MemoryCraft is going to depend on the MemoryCraft model that you use. In this lesson, we will write our layout to a compact flash (ATA card) and look at how the layout shows on the memory card.

1. Click the ATA card icon

OR

Click ATA Card, Write Designs... 

Either way will bring up the Write Designs dialog box. 

Note: MemoryCraft 10000 vers 2.2 owners will see a different dialog box. MemoryCraft 9500/9700/300E owners will not see a dialog box. Their layout will write directly to the card.

2. Click Write to write the layout to the folder of your choice.

3. Your MemoryCraft will read the layout as two B-hoop sized designs, Train01 and Train02. The designs will correspond to the template.

E. Opening Designs

In EasyEdit, we IMPORT embroidery designs to the design screen. We OPEN layouts that we have saved. We will clear the screen of the Train layout, and then re-open it.

1. Click the New icon

OR

Click File, New

Either way will clear the design screen.

2. To open the Train layout file, click the Open icon

OR

Click File, Open...

Either way will bring up the Open dialog box. 

Note: The Open dialog box can only read .caf files.

3. Click Train once to highlight it, then click Open to bring it to the design screen.
