Janome Supplies Required
• Sewing machine, I’m using my JANOME Memory Craft 6700P
Fabric and Notions Required
• Quilting ruler
• Rotary cutter
• Cutting mat
• Iron & ironing board
• A background fabric that measure 14” x 16”, from the same fabric a strip that measure 2 1/2” x 50”
• Strips of your tree fabric, I cut some stip measuring 1 1/4” wide and others 1 1/2” or 1”. You can experiment using different wides. Never cut a strip that measure less than 3/4” wide.
• Fabric for backing and binding, batting
• Threads for piecing and quilting
Instructions
Start cutting your background fabric, free hand, with your rotary cutter. Start cutting your block approximately in the half, then continue making cuts as you where “drawing” the branches of your tree. Assign numbers to each cut, in the exact order in which you made the cuts
Now that you have your cuts labeled, you will start sewing your branches (tree fabrics strips) in the opposite order of your cuts, that means that you will start sewing the las cut that you made, in my case cut number 9
So in this way repeat sewing each strip to your background fabric
To make a branch “shorter” you can sew a piece of background fabric as you see in the pictures below.
Once you finish one half, you can trim the longest side where you will sew the last strip.
Finally sew the last strip (commonly I use the wider strips here). Once the block is ready, I square it up and then I add the 2 1/2 strip of
And there you have! My final block measures 17” square. You can make more blocks and put them together in one quilt!
Hope you enjoy this fun block!
