In the language of flowers, lavender symbolizes purity and devotion. This lavender-filled door hanger is a sweet way to express your love for that special someone. Created in-the-hoop on the Janome Horizon Memory Craft 15000 using reverse applique, the Heart Door Hanger can be made using any combination of fabrics – perfect for using up those scraps. Janome Supplies Required
- One elastic hairband
- Two 8″ squares of wool or regular felt
- One 4″ square of insert fabric for the reverse applique heart
- Painter’s or surgical tape
- Sharp embroidery scissors

Step 1:
- Layer the outer fabric on top. The heart fabric will go beneath.
- Hoop both fabrics.
- Sew color 1 (the reverse applique heart outline)
Trim the Heart:
- Remove the hoop from the machine, but leave the embroidery in the hoop.
- Using a pair of sharp embroidery scissors, cut out the heart a 1/4″ inside of the stitching line, being careful not to cut the heart fabric.
Step 2: Insert and Sew Down the Reverse Applique Heart
- Attach the hoop with the heart cut-out.
- Sew color 2 (applique tack down and applique stitch)
Step 3:
- Place the hoop back on the machine.
- Sew color 3 (the heart outline)
Step 4:
- Sew color 4 (flowers)
Step 5:
- Place the backing fabric on top of the entire embroidery.
- Sew color 5 (backing)
Step 6:
- Remove from the hoop.
- Trim the fabric.
- Clip the curves.
- Turn right side out.
- Stuff with equal parts of lavender and fiberfill.
- If you wish, place a drop of lavender oil on the fiberfill.
- Hand sew the opening used for turning and stuffing.
- Trim as you wish: sew a button to the top and attach a ribbon for hanging on a door knob.
