Easter Egg Garland

Creating the Design

1. Open EasyDesign
2. Go to Corel draw. 
   
3. Draw an elliptical approximately 2” x 3”.
   
   
    
4. Convert to curves  , reshape   to an egg shape.
   
   
5. Select the egg and convert to embroidery.
   
6. Click on Click on Object Details>Dimensions> enlarge to 5”W x 7”H
7. Select Motif Run Line, draw a line across the middle of the egg (hold down Ctrl to keep the line at 0°).
8. Click on Object Details>Motif Line>Curve 16. Place the design edge on the center line, Ctrl+D and flip the second line of motifs. Place the second line above the other, matching designs.
   
    
9. Select the line of designs and right click/hold and drag (to duplicate the line).
10. Click on Object Details>Motif Pattern 012. Change size to .31 and spacing to .32. Arrange so the flower is in the curve of the center motif. Change length of line if needed to place in the curve. Change color.
    
11. Copy that line and Flip. Place in the lower edge of center design.
    
     
12. Click on Single Run Line>draw a line across the bottom of the egg, four grids from the bottom edge.
13. Copy this line and place it four grids from the top of the egg.
14. Copy the line at each end, change colors and place just a bit toward the inside of the egg. (this will be a “sew and flip” line for accent fabric).
    
15. Click on Parallel Motif Fill>Draw a wedge shape in the center of the bottom section.
    
     
16. Click on Object Details>Motif Cross09.
17. Copy and flip to the top of the egg. 
    
18. Click on Triple Run Line> draw line along the angle of the pie shape. Change color.
    
     
19. Duplicate this line and reshape so it radiates out from the point. (stack the tip a bit so it won’t be too dense at the tip) Do a total of 5 lines and Place each line about .1” apart to form a fan shape.
    
20. To prevent Jump stitches among these lines change the Red Diamond (stop)/Green Cross (start) so that it is every other one on each end. This will cause the design to sew back and forth instead of jumping and sewing in one direction.
    
21. Select this element and copy/paste/flip and place on the other end. Reshape (lengthen or shorten as needed).
    
22. Select one of the sew and flip line and duplicate it (right click and drag)
23. Click on Object Details>Motif line>Check, size 0.4 and spacing 0.39
24. Right click to duplicate this motif, change color and arrange in a checkerboard fashion.
    
     
25. Select both of these motif lines and right click and drag to duplicate to place on the other flip and sew line. Resize as needed.
26. Place right over the top of the sew line and flip.
27. Select the outline of the egg and Ctrl+D to duplicate. Click on Object Details>resize to 99%.

To add a Cross appliqué to the middle of the egg- Stitched before the final outline.

1. Go to fonts, WingDings and type in an upper case U. A cross will appear. Change size to 2.5”. 
   
2. Click in the middle of the egg. Arrange to place the cross in the middle of the hoop (which will be the middle of the egg.) Change color of the cross.
3. Select the Cross>Outline and Offsets> -.05> Offset 1>Single run line> Black
4. Select the outside run line and delete. 
   
5. Select the inner run line and duplicate>change color.
6. In Resequence, move the run lines and cross to be stitched before the outside of the egg. The first cross is the placement of the fabric, second is the stitch down line and then the satin stitch will cover the edge.
   
7. If desired, you can omit the cross. 
    
   

Fabric Preparation

1. Fold the 7” x 9” in half, right sides together, so it measures 7” x 4.5”.
2. Sew a ½” seam along the fold leaving an opening of about 3” in the middle of the seam.
3. Split the fold along the area of the opening. This opening will enable the project to be turned right side out.
4. Press.

Finishing Outer Edge of Egg

1. Stitch the outline.
2. Stitch the center design of the egg.
3. Stitch the guide line of the “sew and flip” ends.
4. Place the fabric right side down and stitch. 
   
   
5. Finger press the strips of fabric down to each end. 
   
   
6. Stitch the decorative wedge and the fan lines. 
   
   
7. Place the batting under the egg before the checkerboard is stitched.

Stitching the Appliqué for the Cross

1. Run the placement line for the cross. If using light colored fabric, use two layers of fabric for the appliqué so you won’t see through it.
2. Place the fabric down over the placement line.
3. Stitch down and then trim away the excess fabric.
4. Finish with the satin stitch around the outside.

Finishing the Egg

1. When all the embroidery if finished, with the exception of the final egg shape, place the ribbon to the inside of the egg at 10 and 2 o’clock positions. Tape in place if needed.
2. Place the backing right side down over the top of the egg.
3. Stitch the backing to the front.
   
   
4. Remove from the hoop and use pinking shears to trim seam allowance to ¼”.
5. Turn and press.
6. Slip stitch or use fusible web to secure the opening closed.
