Making The Lanyard
1. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, and press the crease with your iron.
2. Open the fabric and fold it again, this time so that the raw edges meet at the middle crease created in step 1. Press again.
3. Fold the fabric in half again, hiding the raw edges. Press.
4. Open the fabric, place the batting inside the folded fabric, and close it again. It doesn't matter which folded side is used as long as the batting cannot be seen once the fabric has been refolded. Since the batting is shorter than the fabric, center it on the fabric so there's empty fabric on each end. Secure the strap close with pins or binding clips.
5. Topstitch along both sides of the strap, ⅛" from the edge.
6. Bring your strap's two raw edges together, ensuring the strap isn't twisted. Then, pull the D-ring through both strap ends.
7. Slide the top strap up, offsetting it from the bottom strap about 1". Fold the bottom strap's "overhang" in half, making both raw edges meet.
8. Fold both strap ends up about 1½" - 2", ensuring the swivel clasp rests in the fold.
9. Topstitch all the folded layers together, sewing along the folded edges, and then on an X pattern to reinforce the seam.
You did it! Now you can enjoy your cute new lanyard and make more to gift!!
