Smocked Doll Dress

Peggy enjoyed experimenting with the awesome array of built-in decorative stitches on the on the Memory Craft 10000. Plus, Janome Embroidery thread made her stitching just gorgeous. The key to her success was pre-planning the color sequences and stitches for each row. Peggy pleated an 18” x 45” square of batiste with a smoking machine. She suggests using a gathering stitch on your machine as a substitute. And, mark a beginning reference line vertically on the fabric to maintain even rows of gathers. After gathering, fuse interfacing to the back of the fabric to keep the pleats in place. Use the Satin Stitch Foot F and a Blue Tip needle to start decorative stitching. Once stitching is complete, trace the dress bodice on the right side, stitch a row of stay stitching just inside the marked lines and remove gathering threads. You can know construct dress according to pattern instructions. Peggy adds, “using decorative stitches at the hemline expedites the hemming process!”
