When the FM-725 needle felting machine first came out, I wasn't interested until I was told that it wasn't just for embellishing roving onto felted surfaces. In fact, any fabric was fair game. With that in mind, I started experimenting with many natural fabrics. Silk is my favorite fabric of all time, so I played with it. As it turns out, silk lends itself beautifully to being needle felted. In this garment, I completely needle felted the yoke and felted a cross-hatch pattern for the body of the dress. The bottom is the silk fabric unaltered. This garment was sewn on my Horizon Memory Craft 12000, coupled with the FM-725 and easily won top prize for a Sandra Betzina Challenge.
