We'd like to know what your big plans are for sewing in 2014.
Being human, we accomplish much more when we've set down specific goals.
This really applies to sewing and quilting where projects we thought would take us a few hours can sometimes stretch into weeks and months. Thus the frequent sightings of UFOs (UnFinished Objects) in our sewing rooms.
We hope you have some goals to make 2014 a more enjoyable and productive year with your Janome machine. And it would great if you would share what you have planned.
Please vote in our Poll What Is Your Top New Year Sewing Resolution? Then check back on Friday to see the results.

New Project: Cat Block Pillow by Elizabeth Hartman
Use your favorite scraps to create an array of charming patchwork cats.
There's just something about quilting and cats.
Lots of us enjoy creating with fabric and thread under the watchful eye of a feline.
Elizabeth Hartman of Oh, Frannson! has created a clever, geometric cat design that you can use on a quilt block or for an entire pillow.
The Cat Block Pillow project is a perfect way to use your favorite scraps to create an array of charming patchwork cats. The instructions show you how to make an assortment of 6” x 6” cat blocks, or combine 10 cats to make a large block perfect for a 20” x 20” pillow cover.
Elizabeth says, "Don’t hesitate to mix and match fabrics for a scrappy look!"
The project requires intermediate quilting skills and can be completed on any Janome Sewing Machine. Elizabeth uses a 1600P-QC, which sews at up to 1,600 spm and features a 9" bed. Try it out for yourself at your local Janome Dealer.
New Serger Video: Introduction To The 1100D Professional Serger
This has to be the easiest stitch set up you've ever seen.
The Janome 1100D Professional serger has the speed and precision to give you perfect results every time.
And it's also quick and easy to set up.
The 1100D features a unique Stitch Information Display Panel, which shows you the required settings for each stitch. You can set it up in seconds and get dependable results.
How To Set Up A Stitch On The 1100D
- On the stitch display, find the kind of the stitch you want to use and note its corresponding number.
- Turn the display knob on the right of the machine until that number appears in the first column of the Stitch Information Display Panel. You'll now see all the required settings for best results with that stitch. (There's no need to adjust the tension. The 1100D does this automatically for each stitch selected.)
- The second column shows you the differential feed setting, which you set with a knob.
- The third is stitch length, which is adjusted by a knob.
- Fourth is the needle position, which can be left, right, or both.
- Fifth is the cutting width, which you adjust at the side of the bed.
- Sixth is the upper knife position, which should be up or down.
- Second to the right is the two thread converter. Again, it should be up or down.
- Finally, there's the needle plate setting knob, which should also be up or down.
Now you're ready to serge with your chosen stitch.
The presser foot lifter is located to the side on the 1100D. And it doubles as a handy thread cutter.
And for help with threading, you'll find the easy-to-follow guides inside the front cover of the serger.
To see the stitch settings demonstrated watch the video Introduction To The 1100D Professional Serger.
