Sewn With Love: Ann Tift's Humorous Embroidered Tote Bags
The emboidery on these bags is sure to make you smile.
Ann Tift of Sebring, FL thought of a clever Mother's Day gift for her three daughters. She made each of them a tote bag with a unique embroidery design and humorous caption.
Ann thought that each of them matched the personality of her daughters. But what did they think?

Video: Creating Tucks With The Quarter Inch Seam Foot O
Your favorite quilt piecing foot is more versatile than you think.
The 1/4" Seam Foot O is a popular foot with patchworkers, because it makes it easy to maintain that essential 1/4 inch seam. The flange on the side of the foot lets you guide your fabric to sew a perfect 1/4 inch seam every time.
This guide also makes it possible to sew rows of perfectly even tucks.
Using The Quarter Inch Seam Foot O To Create Tucks
- Begin by snapping the foot on the machine and choosing a straight stitch.
- Fold your fabric several inches in from the edge.
- Sew your first row of stitching along the folded edge.
- Unfold your fabric and fold it again a little way from the first seam.
- Set your new fold against the guide and sew a 1/4" seam.
When you're finished with your rows, press all your tucks down in one direction.
To see this demonstrated watch 1/4" Seam Foot O Video: Creating Tucks.
The 1/4" Seam Foot O can also be used wherever a 1/4 inch seam is called for but the markings on the needle plate cannot be used, such as when completing a flat-felled seam. It's compatible with all Janome sewing machines. (The foot requires part #823504004 to work correctly on a MyStyle100.) See your local Janome Dealer with questions.

Janome Heritage: The Memory Craft 9000
This sewing, quilting and embroidery machine earned a reputation for sturdy performance.
The Memory Craft 9000 debuted in the early 1990s. Replacing the MC8000 as Janome's flagship model, the MC9000 had expanded embroidery capabilities, and more time-saving features. It enabled sewists to quickly transition from sewing to embroidery, making it a true 3-in-1 machine.
Designed by Janome to withstand years of sewing, there are many MC9000s going strong after nearly 20 years in service. And some of the stories that have gotten back to us are simply amazing.
One owner in the mid-west told how a tornado destroyed her house, burying her MC9000 in the debris. As they combed through the wreckage they found the machine without external damage but completely soaking wet. They dumped the water out of the case, let the machine dry and plugged it in. It ran but with a little extra vibration. So she took it in to her dealer, who gave it a thorough cleaning. After that it ran like new, including the embroidery functions.
MC9000 owners can still find information on their machine, including the owner's manual as a PDF, in the Retired machine section.

Sewn With Love: Jerry Roberts' Heirloom Dress
She thought her granddaughter would let her make her one last "exquisite" dress.
Jerry Roberts loves heirloom sewing and loves to make dresses for her six year old granddaughter. For this creation she had to hunt down a twenty year old magazine cover and then order her lace from Europe. The result was this beautiful dress. Janome Partners With SewingGood Blog On Our Big Announcement
We're working together on a charitable project as part of our September unveiling.
SewingGood.com is a blog dedicated to stories of quilters and sewists using their skills for the benefit of others.
They feature inspiring news and tell about organizations large and small that could currently use sewing help. Their hope is to inspire all of us to use our sewing for the good of others.
Janome is working with SewingGood on a charitable sewing project of our own. It has to do with our big announcement coming in September. And while we'd like to spill the beans right here, all we can say is that it's going to feature four women who use Janome machines (we call them the "Janome Gals") who will be sewing together on a project for a special family.
Each woman in the group has had a different sewing background. But all of them have experienced great enjoyment in sewing for others.
Terrific Technique: Decorative Hems with the Twin Needle
A scallop stitch and twin needle create the perfect hem on sheers.
Specialty fabrics like sheers come with their own unique challenges. Hems are often difficult, because when they are made in the traditional style, they will show through. The easiest solution to this common problem is a rolled hem. But given the wide variety of tools and stitches available, leave it to the Janome team of sewists to come up with a special technique to add some creative decorative effects!
This special technique shows you how to use a Scallop Stitch, (like Stitch #79 on the Janome Horizon 7700QCP) and a 2mm twin needle to create a fantastic decorative hem. It's simple to achieve - and will give your sheer sewing projects a creative and professional finish.
