Having Fun At Our Anna Maria Horner Events
See the photos from our first two Anna Maria events
One of the most delightful things about our Janome America partnership with Anna Maria Horner is working to put together workshops at our dealers' stores. She is just as delightful in person as she appears on her blog and website, and her enthusiam for the sewing arts is completely infectious! Our first two workshops were wonderful successes, and we have the photos to prove it.
We've created a special Event Gallery on our Janome + Anna Maria website where we will be posting all the fun photos of the laughter and learning at these events. The first two are up now: February 2nd - 4th at Meissner Sewing & Vaccum Center in Sacramento, California and, just this past weekend, March 9th - 11th at The Top Stitch in Spokane, Washington.
Both events kicked off with a prime time meet and greet with Anna, followed by full-day classes on how to make Anna's new Patchwork Prism quilt. This is a project she developed for the Janome Horizon 7700QCP, and we will be posting the instructions soon on the Janome + Anna Maria website, along with a helpful video.
These events are ongoing, and visitors here on janome.com will be the first to find out here when and where events are planned. Or, contact your local Janome America dealer to find out if an Anna Maria event is coming to your neck of the woods.
Modern Quilting on Sew4Home
Straight Line Quilting and a Wonky Log Cabin Block.
Sew4Home recently featured two Guest Tutorials from Modern Quilter, Heather Jones. S4H rarely has guest posts, so we thought these articles might be something special... and we were right! Heather Jones has been making quite a name for herself in the world of Modern Quilting: winning numerous contests, getting ready to debut her own line of Modern Quilting patterns, becoming a member of the Riley Blake Design Team, and just last week, doing another guest appearance on Quilting Arts TV. Wow!
Heather created a wonderful Guest Tutorial on one of her specialties: Straight Line Quilting. Then, she followed that post with a how-to for a Wonky Log Cabin Block. For years, "wonky" was the worst thing your quilt could be. But for modern quilters, the scrappy and irregular cuts are what give a modern quilt its free-form creativity.
Check them both out at Sew4Home, where Janome America is a proud sponsor.

March is National Craft Month: What Is Your Crafting Passion?
Leave us a comment, telling how crafting makes your world a happier place. You could win the amazing Artistic Crystals Software Package!
The Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) reports 56% of American households do at least one craft project a year. We know our Janome community surpasses that by a mile! To celebrate all this creativity, we're going with CHA to honor the 18th annual National Craft Month. Running the entire month of March, National Craft Month was started in 1994 as a way to help people discover the joy of crafting and all its many benefits. It's grown from a handful of retailers and manufacturers into an international celebration of creativity.
Here at Janome America, we want to know how crafting makes your life a happier place. Leave a comment below and tell us what crafting and sewing means to you. We will draw one comment at random on March 31, 2012 and the winner will receive a FREE copy of the Artistic Crystals software, which allows you to design beautiful motifs or fun sayings in sparkling crystals. The Artistic software is the key component of the complete Artistic Crystals system for design, cutting and applying these unique designs.
Celebrate Craft Month with us. Leave a comment below and you'll automatically be entered to win. The contest is open only to legal residents of the USA, 18 years and older.
We'll be posting more information about the Artistic Crystals system right here on janome.com, and a new website will be unvielded very soon. Stay tuned!
A Bevy of Binding Tips From Sew4Home
It's the final step that gives your project professional polish.
From quilts to table linens to the edge of a jacket, binding seems to pop up more often than just about any other sewing technique. Our friends at Sew4Home, where Janome America is a proud sponsor, are featuring a week of "Beautiful Binding." They started off this past Monday with a very thorough step-by-step that details how to cut your binding fabric, which way to press it, how to join it at the ends, and how to actually sew it to your project – both by machine and with a hand-stitched finish. Whether you're a binding pro or a newbie, it's a great summary article.
We think you'd also like their recent tutorial on stitching and clipping corners and points correctly to get the cleanest, sharpest lines.
New Video: Overedge Foot M for the MC12000
This accessory gives you a nice, finished edge in one step.
Some people call it "overcasting." We call it "overedging." But the goal is the same: to fold and stitch the rough edge of your fabric so it won't ravel and will look nice.
On the Horizon Memory Craft 12000 the foot that does this is called the Overedge Foot M. It has several special features to give you the best results.
If you look at the foot closely, you'll see that it has three little "wires." These hold your down your thread during stitching so the seam allowance will lay flat. Without them the tension of the thread can make the seam curl in on itself. The Overedge Foot M also has a flange to guide the edge of your fabric, ensuring an even seam width.
The Horizon Memory Craft 12000 has built-in settings to make this foot easy to use.
Using The Overedge Foot M On Your Horizon Memory Craft 12000
- On the touchscreen of your MC12000, go to Sewing Applications.
- Choose Overedge.
- Choose a fabric.
- Attach Overedge Foot M to your machine.
- Align your fabric with the flange on the foot and guide the fabric under the foot.
- Stitch along the edge of your fabric to create a beautiful, overcast finish.
To see this demonstrated in a short video watch Overcasting With Overedge Foot M.
Then be sure to watch the other feet and accessory videos on our Horizon Memory Craft 12000 Accessory Videos page.
Keeping Up With Anna Maria Horner: Lectures, Project & Video Coming & More
Keeping up with our friend, Anna Maria is a full-time job!
Anna Maria Horner is the definition of "dynamo." She not only has multiple irons in the fire, we think she actually builds the fire too! We are very close to the release of her free pattern for Patchwork Prism, which we are sponsoring. As soon as the accompanying video for it is edited, loaded and ready to go, it will be released as a free download from our Janome + Anna Maria website. That should be any day, so stay tuned.
If you are in the Spokane, Washington area; Anna will be at TopStitch for a workshop and lecture. Unfortunately the workshop is sold out, but seats are still available for the lecture. Visit the TopStitch website for more details.
And, we are very excited to be among the first to let you know that her third book will be coming out this fall! Anna Maria's Needleworks Notebook. It will be filled with the crewel, embroidery, cross stitch, needlepoint, hand quilting and more that Anna does so very, very beautifully. Now, we can learn to follow in her footsteps.
