Janome Designer Challenge
5 yards of fabric and 72 hours
We challenged three of our Educators to come up with a new project using the same fabric. We gave each Educator 5 yards of fabric, assigned a category and 72 hours to complete their design. Erin Schlosser made the Simplicity Dress. Danielle Wilkes made the Thrifty Table Linens. Kelley McKenzie made the Trip Around the Block Quilt. Which do you like best?

Beat the Heat Tank Top
Caroline Hulse of www.sewcaroline.com has made this project and shared the instructions for the Janome community. This tutorial will show you how to take an existing tank that you love to wear, rub off the pattern, and create a tie back tank that is perfect to beat the heat in this summer. The great thing about this project is that it can be done on any Janome sewing machine and is a great way to upcycle an old tank top.
These instructions were written for an adult, but the same method can be used to create a tank top for the little one in your life!
Vermont Quilt Festival 2014
36 MyStyle 100's were given to Young Quilters
To encourage young people to get into the art of quilting, the Vermont Quilt Festival accepts entries in the Youth quilt category. At the Quilt Festival in 2009, Dave LaValley of Bittersweet Fabrics, surprised everyone when he gave away a MyStyle 100 to all 5 kids that entered a quilt. In the following years, the Festival has seen steady growth in the youth category and Dave gives away machines to each entry. This year, 36 quilts were entered by kids ranging from 4-16. All 36 youth quilters received a Janome MyStyle 100 in recognition of their work and to help them continue their journey.
Dave is proud to give away these machines, “I wanted to do something special for these young quilters. The Janome MyStyle100 is a real sewing machine. I tell them that they no longer have to sew on their mom’s machine, because they have one of their very own now.”
Concealed Zipper Foot
Good quality ready to wear garments will often have an invisible zip fitted. These zippers are often neglected by the home dressmaker which is a pity because they can ensure success every time. Invisible zips are suitable for all fabrics from fine silk jersey through to suit weight wools and tweeds. The key is to get the needle as close to the fastener as possible, which this foot accomplishes by slightly unrolling the zipper just before the needle. Once fitted, a well sewn invisible zipper will merely look like part of the seam.

Father's Day Gift Idea
Janome Educator Maddie Bushman, came up with this quick and easy upcycling project perfect for Father's Day.
This is a fun and easy way to preserve a great sweatshirt that doesn't get worn much anymore. Favroite Sports teams sweatshirts work great for this project. Maybe a souvenir that you purchased at a concert where it was a night to remember. Or just maybe its your husband or son's shirt that's just seen better days. Now you can create something new instead of having to junk those memories!
Whichever sweatshirt you choose this pillow is sure to be a hit. Just make sure you get permission first!
Father's Day Project Idea
Leather Tablet Cover and Business Card Holder for Dad
This monogrammed desk set is as useful as it is stylish. Janome Educator, Carol McKinney, has given us a great idea for a Fathers Day gift.
This can be made using many different fabrics but Carol made this for us out of leather. This leather tablet cover and Business Card holder set can be customized to include his initials for a personalized touch.
Father's Day is one week away, show your Dad how important he is with this handmade gift that he is sure to use.
Embroidery with the 15000
Embroidery Motif Bag
Ann Hein, Janome Educator, shows you how to make your own embroidered bag using the Horizon Memory Craft 15000.
Using the Border and Normal Sew stitches in the Horizon Memory Craft 15000 you can make a unique embroidered bag. Placing the embroidery on a vinyl fabric or fashion suede fabric gives it a modern fresh feel. Fabric colors and embroidery thread can make each bag different and interesting. Mix and match for all your spring outfits!
