Fall Fashion Trend Report 2013

PrintE-mail

This autumn look for classic fabrics and subdued colors.

761-fall-fashion-trend-report-2013The major designers have released their fall collections and the trend-setters are predicting that some very traditional looks will be back in style.

One of the big trends is the "mid-century" (1950s-60s) look. Flattering, comfortable, and sophisticated, these are sure to make if off the runway and onto the street.

Early this year the Pantone Company predicted that green would be in. They were right. As Glamour Magazine says, "Pantone called it: Green is officially a thing for fall 2013. From emerald to army, there’s a shade for every skin tone, hair color, and personal style."

Other colors include gray, camel, and of course black and white. A trend that's come back is color blocking--putting contrasting blocks of fabric next to each other like a Mondrian painting.

As far as fabrics, designers are showing beautiful, thick wool, faux fur, and leather. Everyone is using these fabrics in classic overcoats and outer wear. (Do they think we're in for a cold winter?)

If you're going to be sewing your own fall fashion on your Janome, you can get specialty presser feet to make projects much easier.

The power and precision of a Janome sewing machine makes working with even the trickiest fabrics easier and more fun!

Thick wool: many Memory Craft machines can use the AcuFeed Flex™ or original AcuFeed feeding system. Or you can use the walking foot designed for your machine.

Leather: the Ultraglide Foot will help sticky leather feed past your needle.

Faux fur: your standard foot will work but be sure to start your project with a new needle.

See your local Janome dealer to get the right presser feet and accessories for your machine.

New Project: Fabulous Fascinators

PrintE-mail

In honor of our favorite Royals across the pond.

759-new-project-fabulous-fascinatorsA fascinator is basically a very small, formal hat with lots of embellishment. Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, has recently brought them back into vogue.

True millinery (hat making) can require several years of training, and you can see this reflected in the prices of designer fascinators.

But the good news is you can easily make your own.

Janome Educator Maddie Bushman has created a Fascinator project that's doable in just a few hours. You need only beginning sewing skills and you can make it on any Janome sewing machine. You'll also need a Ruffler that fits your machine model.

Maddie says, "Using trims, ribbons, buttons, feathers and a bevy of other embellishments a work of art can come to life. Some of the embellishments you may already have from other fun craft projects. This instruction guide will bring you through how to make the purple and black hat (pictured in the project), but you can use your creativity to make a masterpiece unique to you!"

Powered by Janome: Create Kids Couture

PrintE-mail

After learning to sew, these two moms created their own, unique pattern company.

758-powered-by-janome-create-kids-coutureTiffany and Shannon met while teaching themselves how to sew clothes for their daughters. They soon realized that while there were plenty of beautiful patterns out there, they could find very few "over-the-top" children’s boutique patterns.

After becoming experienced seamstresses, both opened up clothing boutiques. They continued to work together, sharing what they were learning--including what it takes to make good patterns.

After multiple requests from fans, they decided to share their one-of-a-kind designs, opening Create Kids Couture in 2011. They now offer 170 patterns for girls, tweens, womens, boys, and dolls. And they love their Janome machines.

New Bank Vacuum Model: The Stick Up HEPA

PrintE-mail

The lightweight vacuum with heavy duty filtration.

755-new-bank-vacuum-model-the-stick-up-hepaThe Bank Vacuum Company has just introduced a new version of its convenient Stick Up model that includes HEPA filtration.

In case you wondered, HEPA stands for High-Efficiency Particulate Air. To qualify as HEPA by US government standards, an air filter must remove (from the air that passes through) 99.97% of particles that have a size of 0.3 micrometres.

The HEPA filter on the Stick Up effectively traps pollen, bacteria, mold spores and pet dander. Plus, the vacuum has a charcoal filer to capture and eliminate odors.

In addition to the advanced filtration and light weight (only 6 lbs.!) The Bank Stick Up is the perfect choice for powerful, cordless cleaning. It was designed to give you excellent performance on all hard surfaces as well as carpets and area rugs.

The detachable hand vacuum is perfect for those little spills or around birdcages or litterboxes, or take it out to the car. The vacuum also featues a swivel neck assembly for those hard to reach areas and an easy-to-use On/Off switch for the rotating brush.

Janome Heritage Machine: The Classmate S-750

PrintE-mail

This basic flatbed machine has proved to be a terrific beginner model.

753-janome-heritage-machine-the-classmate-s750Usually, when we feature one of our "heritage" machines, it's a model that was popular in the past but has been since discontinued.

Today's heritage model was introduced back in 1999 but has proved to be so reliable and easy to use, it's still available 14 years later.

The Classmate S-750 was designed for sewing classes. Simplicity and reliability are the keys to a hard-working classroom sewing machine and the S-750 excelled (and still excells) at both. With 10 utility stitches and a built-in buttonhole, it gave students a solid range of options, and most important, it had excellent Janome stitch quality to give students early success.

Another winning innovation was its top-loading bobbin system, a timesaving feature not usually found on economy model machines. It also had a handy threading guide that makes changing top and bobbin thread easy. Finally, the versatile flatbed design allowed the S-750 machine to fit existing sewing cabinetry.

The machine caught the notice of Home Economics Magazine, which gave it a What's New Porfolio Award in 1999.

Quiet, smooth and dependable, the Janome S-750 continues to make learning to sew frustration-free for students and teachers alike.
