Christmas Reindeer Doorknob Hanger

Level: Beginner - Intermediate

Just the right quick gift for that special friend you want to exchange gifts with at the office. This is an easy and fun project for the person who enjoys making holiday decorations. It is a great way to show off your sewing and craft skills. When your friends see this cute doorknob hanger they will all want one. You can also use them as decorations for packages.

Janome Supplies Required:

  • Any Janome Sewing Machine
  • Zig-Zag foot A
  • Blue Tip needle 75/11

Fabric and Notions Required:

  • 5" x 10" brown or printed cotton fabric
  • Brown felt square
  • Green felt square
  • Two 12" pieces of ribbon (red and green)
  • Two 10mm black faceted beads
  • Small red bell
  • Three small red glitter pom poms
  • Small stuffing tool
  • Fiberfil
  • All purpose thread
  • Hand sewing needle
  • Black permanent marker
  • Fabric tack glue

Instructions:

  1. Set up your sewing machine for a Straight Stitch. Adjust the length to 2.0.
  2. Fold brown felt square in half and trace the pattern for the antlers. Be sure to transfer the dotted lines from the pattern to the felt.
  3. Stitch along the solid lines starting at the bottom.
  4. Continue to sew around the antler. Stitch along the dotted line to the inside of the hole and around to the other antler.
  5. Trim close to the stitches. Be sure you have a circular opening for the center. Note: The antlers must be joined to fit and remain around the doorknob.
  6. With right sides together, fold the brown (or printed) fabric in half and trace the pattern for the head.
  7. Sew on the lines starting at a straight section and continue around to close the circle.
  8. Trim around the outer edge of the stitches.
  9. Using your scissors, clip a slit on one side of the head and antlers, as indicated on the pattern piece. Note: For the antlers, be sure you clip the side that does not have the traced line.
  10. Turn the head right side out. Do not try to turn the antlers.
  11. Using a small stuffing tool, firmly stuff the antlers with Fiberfil. Close slit with a slipstitch, using a hand sewing needle and thread.
  12. Firmly stuff the head with Fiberfil. Close slit with a slipstitch.
  13. Sew the beads in place for the eyes.
  14. Sew the bell in place for the nose.
  15. Cut a holly leaf from the green felt.
  16. Arrange the head on the antlers to place the holly leaf.
  17. Glue the holly leaf in place.
  18. Glue the head to the antlers.
  19. Glue the pom poms on the leaf.
  20. Make a bow of the two pieces of ribbon. Glue just below the holly leaf on the head.
  21. Pinch firmly until glue is set.
