Level: Beginner

This business card holder is very easy to create. It's a wonderful desk accessory that you can make for yourself or as a gift. Maddie used the Memory Craft 10000 to create the embroidery but any Janome machine could make this project. Vary the fabric type and embellishment to match any dÈcor. Level – beginner. Time – less than ½ day.

Janome Supplies Required:

  • Memory Craft 11,000, 10000, 10001, 9500, 5000, 5700, 300E, 350E (Embroidery only)
  • PC Design Card #1010 (Flower Collection) or other small design of choice.
  • Clothsetter 10000 or Clothsetter Table
  • Standard Hoop A, ST hoop or small hoop appropriate for design
  • Embroidery foot P
  • Satin Stitch foot F
  • Janome Embroidery thread
  • Janome Bobbin thread
  • Blue Tip needle 75/11

Fabric and Notions Required:

  • 7" square for embroidery
  • 7" square for back
  • 3" x 5" fabric to cover cardboard
  • 7"square of batting
  • 1/4" ribbon 24" long
  • 1 3/4" x 4" cardboard
  • Tear away stabilizer
  • Template plastic
  • All purpose thread
  • Fabric marking pen
  • Ruler
  • Permanent fabric glue

Instructions:

  1. Using pattern provided make a clear plastic template.
  2. Set up the MC10000 for Professional-Style Embroidery.
  3. Insert PC Design Card #1010 (Flower Collection) into the machine.
  4. Press the Embroidery Mode key.
  5. Press the PC Card tab. Select Design #6 or use design of choice..
  6. Stabilize fabric for embroidery.
  7. Hoop stabilized fabric using Clothsetter 10000 for perfect placement.
  8. Stitch out design.
  9. Set up the MC10000 for Ordinary sewing.
  10. Attach the Satin Stitch foot F.
  11. On the wrong side of the embroidered fabric trace the outline of the plastic template. Note: The design should be on the large section as close to the edge as possible.
  12. Place fabric right sides together and the batting on the bottom.
  13. Sew on the traced line. Do not leave an opening. Trim as needed.
  14. On the batting side, cut a slit as indicated on the pattern. Turn right side out.
    Note: It is not necessary to close the opening.
  15. Using a ruler and fabric marking pen, draw lines as indicated by dotted lines on the pattern.
  16. Stitch on the lines. These will become fold lines.
  17. Fold the flaps towards the center and press.
  18. With a hand sewing needle and thread stitch the corners together. Two or three stitches are sufficient.
  19. Take the piece of cardboard and cover it with fabric. Secure with glue.
  20. Glue the cardboard to the bottom of the holder. The "slit" opening should be glued to the unfinished side of the cardboard.
  21. Tie the 24" piece of ribbon around holder. Tie in a bow and trim as needed.
  22. Dab corners with glue and secure the ribbon to the corners.
