Hey all, I'm not only new to this site but also to sewing... I have a Janome sewist 509. I'm using it with light materials, but I am doing a blanket with just cotton on one site and lightweight denim on the other. My needle broke!

I don't know what type of needles to buy... I know there are heavier needles for heavier fabrics, but for just regular sewing... are there different sizes for different machines?

Any help would be great! thanks!

Hi,

There hasn't been a posting here in a long time. I just have to share that a friend and I drove to a store 2 hours away and took a class. We learned so much and were so excited that we met again on our stat holiday this week and felted some more.

This lady had us felt dyed cheese cloth onto a piece of thin denim and then use wool roving, wool cloth and many other things onto our base. We also used only 1 needle. It never occurred to either of the 2 of us to take out the 5 needles and replace with just one. It make the accuracy of what needs to be done so much easier. Also our teacher says she likes to try things that are not suppose to work and she makes them work by felting a little wool onto them, ie: stretchy dance fabric; and that onto a piece of light weight cotton as backing. When you cut out shapes you like the backing is pulled off and you felt it onto the picture. Works like a charm.

I'm just so excited. Has anyone here tried anything that they might share for our learning experience.

Cheryl

Hi all,

Does anyone knows, for Janome JP760, could I manually get the thread through the needle eye manually in case the automatic needle threader is not working?

I'm planning to buy this model. Even though it has this feature but if I couldn't manually do it once the feature is broken, it's really a pain !!! Which just means you couldn't do anything at all.
