Hi,
I have a Janome 644D which I absolutely love. When I first started using the machine, thread breaking was a problem and I almost quit using it. I'd rethread the looper(s) and within a couple stitches another thread was broken.

I've found anytime I have to rethread a looper it's critical to disengage the needle thread from any existing stitches under the throat plate before restarting to serge. Put your tweezers below the needle, catch the needle thread and pull it up and out of the stitches. Pull the "free" needle thread to the back of the machine, rethread any looper(s) and start serging.

Hope this is helpful.

Susan

I'm very excited to have received from a quilting angel a Juno 3434D. I knew before it arrived that there would be no instruction booklet. Does anyone have a site where this would be available or could scan the threading instructions for me? Do all sergers thread the same way, lower first then upper threads? We have no dealer here and the closest one would be 3.5 hours away. Thanks for any assistance.

Does anyone have any experience using silver metallic thread in a serger? I want to just use it in the upper looper. Wondering about tension settings. I'm afraid to try it and have the thread break and have to rethread. I always rethread by knotting and pulling the thread through....but if it breaks....It's a pain to rethread. So I was wondering if anyone has experience with this. Thanks!! Barb

Does anyone have an good techniques for sewing thicknesses of fleece. My Janome has a hard time starting and tightly serging the first inch or sew when I put several layers together.

For example, I am serging fleece baby buntings. The hood is two thicknesses serged to the body which is one thickness. The initial stitches bunch up together and don't serge a tight seam. Not only does it look bad, but I have to use my sewing machine to sew the first inch along the serging line to ensure that I have a tight seam.

Thanks for any help you can offer.
