Editing a purchased design
Content is edited
Hello to all. Is it possible to edit a purchased applique design? Found an adorable design that had great reviews, but when I stitched it out I found that the underlay was only a single run line for the satin stitches and I would like the satin stitches to be a little wider. Also the outline stitching and tack down stitches for each applique piece was not completely sewn. If anyone has edited a purchased piece please advise. Thanks for your help.

  1. RE: Editing a purchased design

I remember playing about with a purchased design sometime ago. I've long given up buying designs because I always find them so fiddly to correct. If I remember rightly, if you have editing software (such as MBX), you call the machine up in the Stitch side (the EasyEdit in MBX), then save it to the EasyDesign side. From there it's possible to editing all the elements. I hope I've remembered the sequence correctly, but all should become clear when you try (fingers crossed!)

Karen, it is possible to edit a purchased design but you do need a full digitising program or a stitch editor in order to do it.
With a full digitising program you make a copy of the design, rename the copy and using the copy simply re-digitise the satin stitch the width you want with the underlay you want then delete the original satin outline.

With a stitch editor you move each stitch out to the width you want, a long time consuming process and requires a lot of patience. An alternative is to contact the site you purchased from and ask the digitiser to do the editing as they will have the native format for the design which makes it very easy to accomplish changes, either that or bin the designs and use a site like Embroidery library.

Thank you. I was able to edit the design & make the necessary changes with my software. Will be doing a test stitch out today.
