Travel Set - Laundry Bag

Created By: Amy Meek
Skill Level: Beginner

When you're living out of a suitcase for a little while, you'll probably run into the issue of what to do with all of your dirty clothes. You don't want to leave them in your luggage where they could get clean clothes dirty! Make this simple laundry bag to tuck into your suitcase and fill with your dirty clothes as you go.

Janome Supplies Required
  • Janome Sewing Machine
  • Ultra Glide Foot
Fabric and Notions Required

Fabrics and Notions Required:

  • Scissors
  • Thread
  • 1 yard woven fabric
  • 4" x 45" strip of neoprene
  • Cord or ribbon for drawstring
Instructions
  1. Along one long edge of the fabric place the strip of neoprene.
  2. Use a triple zig zag stitch to stitch the neoprene and fabric together. If your fabric has a wrong side, this should be stitched right sides down with the neoprene covering the raw edge.
  3. Fold the neoprene in half covering the raw edge of the fabric and use the same zig zag stitch down the casing.
  4. Fold the fabric in half and stitch from below casing to the end of fabric. Then you'll pivot and close the bottom of the bag.
  5. Turn right side out and use a large safety pin to pull the cord through the casing and knot at the ends.

I like the concept, but the directions are "sloppy." Nowhere in the supply list does it mention the felt or the batting (how much?). Also, I would never use a high loft batting in a placemat, or a table runner, as I think that it would be too unstable for a glass. The next time I make these, I will cut out the batting (I use flannel) and spray baste it to the wrong side of the Dresden plate before I put the Dresden plate on the felt to cut out. I have not yet washed the finished placemat, and am hoping that the single layer of felt does not curl up, or become distorted after washing/drying.

I made this today but your cutting directions need to be changed. You only need 4 of color 1 and color 3 4.5 squares for the triangles. Also the inner border, you only need 2 cuts as WOF is long enough to cut each in half to fit the sides.
