Video: Making Piping With The Narrow Base Zipper Foot

The Narrow Base Zipper Foot lets you get in close enough to make it easy.

Custom piping really gives your home decor and garment projects a professional finish. It's easy to make and easy to install.

To make it, you simply fold bias tape (or a bias strip you've cut from your fabric) over cording and sew a straight stitch.

But the trick is getting your needle close enough to the cording so the bias fabric goes around it snugly. Here's where you use a Janome presser foot on your sewing machine that allows you to get right up close to the piping: the Narrow Base Zipper Foot.

There are two models of this foot, one for High Shank sewing machines and one for Low Shank. Ask your Janome Dealer which one is right for your sewing machine.

How to use it: Snap the Narrow Base Zipper Foot onto your machine. The foot has a screw on the right side. Loosen this and slide the foot to the right of the needle. Position the covered cording so it's against the foot. Then just sew down the length of your bias strip.

You can learn how do this in about minute by watching Zipper Foot--Narrow Base Video: Making Piping. The video shows the High Shank model but the instructions apply to the Low Shank foot as well.
