The Sewing Diaries - Week 6

Quilt on Your Machine

Janome Canada Artisan Sherri Sylvester of Thread Riding Hood started a six-week blog series called The Sewing Diaries, where she has been posting one topic per week about her new machine, the Skyline S7. You can find the first five weeks of Sherri’s Sewing Diaries on the Janome Blog page. Today, Sherri posted her last Sewing Diaries article on things you should know when learning about how your sewing machine handles piecing and quilting.

In her article, Sherri mentions to check out your feet. If a specific quilting foot came with your machine, find out what it does! It is also important to check your tension. If you are using different spool and bobbin colors, it is especially important that the tension is set properly.

Next, it is important to find out how to sew with a precise ¼” seam allowance. Without a precise seam, you will not be able to follow most quilt patterns.  Sherri recommends you use a piecing foot to make sure you sew your seams accurately.

Thank you Sherri for all of your hard work!
