Milinda Tests the Embroidery Function on the Skyline S9

Kitchen Towels with a Hand Embroidered Look

Janome Artisan Milinda Stephenson of Milinda Sews is excited to post her first Skyline S9 review at the beginning of next month, but wanted to first share her awesome experience testing the embroidery function on the new machine.

“Remember those cute kitchen towels that you had when you first moved into your house? The ones that are now a little ragged and washed out? My grandmother loved hand embroidering kitchen towels for Christmas, weddings, birthdays and just because. I loved receiving those towels because it was something that I wouldn't think to buy for myself and they made my kitchen sparkle with grandmother love.

I wanted to follow my grandmother’s tradition, but do not have the time to hand embroider. I also couldn’t wait to try out both the sewing and embroidery features on the new Skyline S9. Kitchen towels were the perfect simple project for showcasing the built-in embroidery designs as well as the myriad of stitches available in normal sewing mode.

I chose the awesome embroidery designs created by Janome Spokesperson Anna Maria Horner. I then switched to normal sewing mode and using the same thread colors in the embroidery design, chose stitches that most closely matched those. After that, I embellished the hem area of the towels.

This is a project that you can’t mess up and it is a great way to see what all of those cool stitches look like when they are actually sewn out. My new Skyline S9 gave me the ability to create these beautiful towels and achieve a hand embroidered look. It is a great machine and it has all of the best features of a Janome. In addition, the fabulous robotic arm for the embroidery unit guarantees precision.” – Milinda Stephenson
