Laminates Love The Janome Ultraglide Foot

509-laminates-love-the-janome-ultraglide-footLeave a comment about a "sticky situation" your Janome has saved your from, and you could win!

Cotton laminates are one of the most popular new substates coming from fabric manufacturers these days. They are much easier to work with than the old-school oil cloths, but they still require some special handling. Number 1) stay away from pins; use clips or temporary adhesives to hold pieces together prior to seaming. Number 2) a regular presser foot will stitck to laminates; use the Janome Ultraglide foot

We're guessing successful-sewing-with-laminates is just one of the "sticky situations" in which your trusty Jaome has saved the day! Leave us a comment below telling us about your favorite Janome-to-the-rescue moment. We'll draw a winner from all the comments collected between now and August 31, 2012. The winner will receive a Janome Ultraglide foot plus two generous cuts of beautiful cotton laminate from Tula Pink's soon to be released collection for FreeSprit Fabrics: The Birds & The Bees.

Our friends at Sew4Home.com, where Janome America is a sponsor, recently finished a series with FreeSpirit and sent us these two lovely fabric cuts to give away. The laminate is 55" wide, and our winner will recieve 1¼ yards of Meteor Shower in Cinnamon and 1½ yards of Tree of Life in Cinnamon.

You can visit Sew4Home for a great tutorial on working with laminates as well as fun ideas for laminate projects, such as as a vanity tabletop cover. But first, leave a comment below about your "sticky situation" for your chance to win.

making a tote with my Janome magonlia, the seam was thick & it breezed right through. My girlfriend had to use my little machine since her machine would not go through the seam. I love my Janome so much I had to go buy the Horizon!

Making curtains for my daughter's apartment the day I had to leave. The Janome 2011 made sewing through many thickness quick and easy. I was able to get them done without any trouble. What a great machine.

I had to sew some cushions for the sister of a friend in a rush before her party and I usually do this kind of work on my old faithful Singer because of it being bulky and not wanting to hurt my MC9000 (I tend to save this machine for the more delicate projects). Well the ancient belt on my old Singer passed away just as I started the project so I grudgingly used my MC9000. Now I'm seriously considering retiring my old Singer and forever using the new old faithful MC9000 for these types of projects! It worked beautifully and will forever be greatful that my honey bought this for me years ago. I have always loved my MC9000 but it saved me and my friends sister's party!

Made doggy diapers for Little Mr. Marks-On-The-Furniture! He can't get them off either. My problem is solved, although he doesn't look happy :)

I had a wedding come up and didn't have money for a dress. I had some lovely shiny black satin in my stash and whipped up a corset and a flattering circular skirt. I crocheted silver trim round the bottom of the skirt and sewed it on. My janome was a life saver.

My neighbors daughter's prom dress was too long - Her doting Father (single Father) returned from work & discovered her sobbing 2 hours before time to leave for the prom.
He brought it over I fixed it right up - Disaster averted, meltdown alleviated, Made her Daddy a HERO once again. :-)

I would love to win the glide foot and laminate fabric. I like to make cosmetic bags with laminate fabric. I also love my MC6500 and I have friends who bought one because of my praises on its behalf.

My Janome machines have gotten me though many sticky situations as I have outfitted my 7 year old granddaughter over these past 6 or more years. It has sewn boas to ruffles, shirred peasant tops, embroidered umpteen thousand (slight exaggeration - ha!) shirts and tops, you name it! Up on the fall sewing schedule is one of these laminated rain coats. I would love to win this foot!

Last second alterations - popped buttons, busted seams on jeans, special event & that lil' black dres was a bit too "lil". There are hundreds of ways my Janome has gotten me & my Hubby thru sticky situations.

My Janome MC6600 is wonderful- I've been making loads and loads of baby quilts for friends/family. It's saved me when I ripped my hem one night before going out- just sat down and in a few minutes, I managed to fix it!!! Hurrah!

It was planting season - and I couldn't find the topsy turvy tomato planters in the stores at a price I could afford. A little time with some recycled tyvek mailers, and my Janome Sew Precise on zig zag - and I had bags for all my seedlings.

My best friend's daughter bought a slinky, satiny prom dress and had it hemmed at the store where she bought it. When she got it home, the hem was dragging on one said and 2" shorter on the other side. Night before prom, she called and said help, can you fix it? My Janome 10000 stitched it up right quick. All my machines are Janome!

My neighbor showed up with blank shirts she wanted embroidered for her family to cheer on her daughter who was competing in her first triathlon (the next day!) My Mc11000 got the job done with beautiful results!

I was always making something for my two daughters - costumes and, yes, formals for prom. But it was when my son asked for help - his girlfriend took her prom dress to the cleaners and they ruined it. He asked if I could make another one just like it - in two days! I used her old dress as the pattern and, yes, Janome to the rescue!!! Done, just in time - and she loved it!

The day before my daughter's birthday party/sleepover and we hadnt come up with any goody bag ideas until she had with a great one. I whipped up 5 doll sleeping bags in just a few hours for my the party guests. Much better than the typical goody bags.

I've often said that my Janome MC 6000 just might be able to sew thru a 2X4 (piece of lumber) if I needed it to. Recently, I had to repair my sons hockey shoulder pads and that was REALLY difficult, thick yet spongy. I actually had to set my stitch length to match the holes on the plastic curved shoulder cap and sew the covering, foam and elastic back on. My machine was unstoppable and sewed like the champ she is! She also sews beautifully on my GRANDS clothing and blankets! I think she's the best machine in the world!

I am always in a hurry and can rely on my Janome to cooperate every time. I have made warm windows which have many layers and needs to measure exactly. works great on my machine. I am thinking the ultra glide foot would work great for the pul fabric.

I have a MC10000 (saving for the 12000) and it goes everywhere with me even on holiday.....thank goodness I took it with me on a caravan holiday this year because the wind ripped the awning on the caravan and my trusty machine mended it without any problem at all enabling us to continue our holiday with awning intact. Love Janome and would not buy any other make of machine so reliable and it has a personality of its own.

I wanted to make some visiting Japanese college students feel welcome, as well as entertained. We selected one of the built-in fonts on my Memorycraft and embroidered one name while they visited. Later I did the other name, and made them some quick zippered bags. They loved watching it embroider the first name. The two boys just loved it, they loved taking personalized gifts home to Japan.

Money was really tight for my niece. She saved up to pay for decorations for a friends wedding shower but ended up needing the money for a major car repair. We were able to put together some inexpensive decorations with my Janome 350e. Every bride should have her day! Janome really came to the rescue!

I had a project that required gathering 90 inches of fabric. I selected the gathering pre-set on my MC12000, set the cloth guide to the seam allowance I needed, and had the lines sewn in no time. The fabric just glided on the thread, giving me beautiful gathers!

My Janome 5700 sewed through many thick bulky layers of camo fabric, batting, and insulating fabric to sew my son a custom jumbo sized lunch bag for work. He works 12 hour days so he requested an insulated bag large enough to hold several meals which might include whole chickens! My Janome handled it with ease.

My Janome DC 1050 made the task of making replacement drapes for my 1996 Airstream a reality. Now I have beautiful suede thermabacked drapes that block out light and noise. Quite an improvement to my home on wheels. Thank you Janome!

The maiden voyage for my 7700 was a challenging tote bag project. I chose to laminate my chosen fabric with HeatnBond vinyl.

This bag used 92 pieces of stabilizers, vin yl, fabric, zipper, etc!

The 7700, with the AcuFeed foot (which goes over laminates beautifully, I may add!) went from 5 layers over a bump with another 16 layers with no problem! In the heaviest spot of the bottom seams, there was vinyl covering side, bottom, and piping pieces, loads of stabilizer and ... oh yeah.. the fabric itself - a whopping **30** layers of fabric! This was done with the zipper foot to guide that super-thick seam along the piping.

Janome to the rescue... it's made sewing a joyful experience - even when it was thrown a very challenging project!

Pictures of the project can be found here:

PS... I love having the right footsie for the job!

Last week I purchased a Memory Craft 6600P and I cannot believe how much it has improved my sewing results. I had no idea my old machine was holding me back. The AcuFeed foot works beautifully in making sure the layers of fabric stay together and the seams line-up neatly. The machine is a dream to learn and use - wish I had made this purchase sooner.

From the Janome 9000 to the Janome12000 to my Janome serger, these work horse machines have served me very well with confidence and great ease for whatever project I attempt.
My kids and grand kids, and family members, think I can make "anything" with my machines. They are not far from telling the truth.
My Janomes are out and always ready for use, because I never know when I or someone will need that last minute project, ( they always do ) and I have the confidence that my Janome machines are up for the tasks.
From mending the "impossible" when it's their favorite pair of jeans, to helping them to do 4-H sewing projects, making themselves their own quilts, embroidering a design at last minute for a gift or just letting them be creative. And with the ease of sewing with my Janome 12000, I have them "spoiled" to sewing with a great machine.
I hope I have passed on the desire for them to love sewing, and Janome machines as much as I do.

I love my Janome so much I can hardly stop telling people about it. My life truly changed after buying it and a new career in the sewing world was launched- the ease of sewing with such a fine tool allowed my creativity to become fully realized and I honed my skills as a designer and sewist and even published a book called Improv Sewing to share my ideas. Every deadline is met because my machine ALWAYS works so...sticky situations avoided!

I just bought a Memory Craft 9700 and am looking forward to all the things I can make and do with it. The laminate fabric will be a good way to get acquainted with the Ultraglide Foot
