March is National Craft Month: What Is Your Crafting Passion?

PrintE-mail

388-march-is-national-craft-monthLeave us a comment, telling how crafting makes your world a happier place. You could win the amazing Artistic Crystals Software Package!

The Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) reports 56% of American households do at least one craft project a year. We know our Janome community surpasses that by a mile! To celebrate all this creativity, we're going with CHA to honor the 18th annual National Craft Month. Running the entire month of March, National Craft Month was started in 1994 as a way to help people discover the joy of crafting and all its many benefits. It's grown from a handful of retailers and manufacturers into an international celebration of creativity.

Here at Janome America, we want to know how crafting makes your life a happier place. Leave a comment below and tell us what crafting and sewing means to you. We will draw one comment at random on March 31, 2012 and the winner will receive a FREE copy of the Artistic Crystals software, which allows you to design beautiful motifs or fun sayings in sparkling crystals. The Artistic software is the key component of the complete Artistic Crystals system for design, cutting and applying these unique designs.

Celebrate Craft Month with us. Leave a comment below and you'll automatically be entered to win. The contest is open only to legal residents of the USA, 18 years and older.

We'll be posting more information about the Artistic Crystals system right here on janome.com, and a new website will be unvielded very soon. Stay tuned!

I have been crafting for as long as I can remember. Creating something takes you to a place where the only thing that matters is you and your design. I was fortunate to be able to make crafting my full time job four years ago when I opened my own shop. From appliqué to monogramming. Floral design to painting. I get to create everyday!

I have always enjoyed crafting, but now I am finally getting the chance to devote time to it. My husband spent all of last year deployed, and as I no longer home school . . .. I needed something for ME! That was crafting. I am sewing more and more, and just recently purchased a Janome M350E. I would LOVE to win a free copy of Artistic Crystals, for then I can give my patriotic projects that extra "bling pop".

I use my crafting time as my time. I just purchased the MC 12000 and love the new features that help my creativity. It is a way that I can make "special" gifts for my family and friends. The gifts are personalized and special to the recipients.
Crafting is something that I enjoy and it gives me satisfaction. It allows me to get away from stress and makes me put my worries aside for a time. It gives me a sense of worth and well being to be able to create different projects.
I love to create with my machine.

I would love the software for use with my new Janome 11000. I started crafting when I was 7 and the neighbor taught me how to knit. I have always loved creating things....If I can see it, and really look it over, I can usually make it....especially if it is sewn. I do watercolor painting and would love to work that into my embroidery and quilting projects.

My sewing time is for me to regain a sense of myself, a reprieve from the real world. I make gifts for others less fortunate. I'm a caregiver for my elderly mother, and my husband (throat cancer). I count my blessings for the quite times that are my own.

Crafting makes me a happier person because I get to do something I love everyday. I do long arm quilting for customers and seeing all the great quilts people bring to me makes me smile each time I see one. Everyone is so completely different and you can learn a lot from the style of quilts people create. I get to have fun choosing designs and thread colors but sometimes it presents a challenge-and when its over and the quilt is finished, it gives me such great satisfaction to know the quilt came out looking fabulous! Thanks so much for the chance to win. ~!~Ashley~!~

I became an empty nester this past year. I took over one of my daughter's bedrooms to FINALLY have what I've always dreamed of - a sewing/crafting room. I have 2 old computer desks that I put back to back to make a large sewing area. I have my Janome Memory Craft sewing machine set up on one side and my Janome Babylok serger set up on the other. I have my rotary cutting mat in the middle of them so I can have a large area ready for cutting out. I also have a craft table set up on the other side of the room to use for crafts that involve a glue gun, etc. I love it. Wish I could upload a picture for everyone to see. I can go in there, shut the door and be in my own little heaven.

I learned to sew 50 years ago. My mother taught me and I now have that machine. It still does a fantastic job. I also have 2 Janome machines. I love to embroidery. It's like magic watching each color change the design. When my grandsons were small they loved that they had a shirt that was different to the other boys.

Crafting has enhanced my life in so many ways.
I think that crafting has given my artistic nature a wonderful outlet. Not only can I express my creativity, but it allows me to make beautiful gifts for my friends and family. I can beautify my home with practical and lovely things. It allows me to make my world a better place when I make charity quilts to give to various organizations, Crafting gave me the opportunity to pass knowledge and art to my children and their cousins and friends. It affords me social opportunities and is often a great conversation starter with strangers and allows me to meet new friends. It gives me the excuse to get together with my best friend every Friday to craft. It gives me a reason to shop at craft stores,so it helps the economy. It keeps my husband happy because it makes me happy. Everyone knows that if Mama is happy, everyone's happy.

Last year I got to share my love of crafting by making purses for family members of fallen soldiers. My sister had a son killed in Iraq, and we came uo with the idea for the purse where they could have a place to put their soldier's picture and some info about them--such as emblems from branch of service, name, etc., and they were a hit. Everyone loved that their soldier could be recognized and remembered. It really brought joy to me to bring a little joy back into their life.

Working on a quilt for a graduation gift at the present time, as well as other small projects going on at once. In the process of getting a 16x10 sewing area finished, hoping to be able to move into it in a few days. So excited! Would love to have better software for my Janome 350E. I have the customizer at present.

After loosing my Mom and having open heart surgery during the last 9 months, I would be lost without the thereputic and things I can create. I have always loved sewing. Combined with the technology and the sewing, almost anything can be created. You are only limited by your imagination and time.

I have been actively creating for my home, my children and my community for sixty years. My two Janome's are up and ready for daily use. When a new craft idea is presented, I study it until I am proficient and able to share it with my world. My craftiness provides many peaceful hours to meditate freely and to recharge my spirit. There is no better place or time for prayer and gratitude.

Crafting makes me happy. Once a month some of my friends and I get together to create a new project. We eat, laugh and of course craft. It's a great time to relax with friends and share new ideas. When I am not with my friends I relax by sewing blocks of the month, strip quilts, t-shirt quilts, baby quilts... My Janome machines have been a blessing to me.

Crafting and sewing for me is completely necessary. I grew up working with my hands making things. I made doll clothes and then my own, and my children's. I went on to quilting, dolls, and fabric collage. Fabric is ever changing, and the way we use it is in a constant state of flux. I think that it what I love the most, that there is always something new and different around the corner, yet is still has that same comforting familiarity. It clothes us, warms us and feeds the soul of the artist at the same time. There is something to be said for things that we make with our own hands, that we give from our hearts. I believe that everyone has the ability to do good work, sometimes with just a little guidance, and of course well made tools.

I love any type of craft, wether it is sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidery (by machine or by hand). I think everyone needs an outlet for their creativity and should at least experience sewing once, if they did they would much happier people. Sewing is fun to do while everyone else is asleep, or when the day or evening is so hectic and you think you are going to scream, just pickup some fabric, head to your machine and magically a creation is born.

Sewing is my down time from my busy life as a Controller for a large company. I can't wait to get home and sew. My favorite love is making 18" doll clothing. I sew all year long to participate in a Hospice Event in my county every year. I always give a home made gift to all my friends in family whether it is holiday, birthday, accomplishment or just help a friend in need.

I just got my first Janome machine last fall and can't stop finding new things to do. I will never own anything but a Janome.
Yours in crafting.

Sewing and crafts keep me happy. My husband just bought me the 7700 Horizon to help me with my free motion quilting. I now own 5 Janome mashines. Two are embroidery machines.I have a room of fabric, so what else cound a person want. I have the newest Digitizer program to keep me creative too..I do like to take chocolate breaks to keep up my strength, if I had some one to cook and clean, I would never come out of my sewing room.

“The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. What you’ll discover will be wonderful. What you’ll discover is yourself.” (Alan Alda) That is what "crafting" has allowed me...to discover my "self" while sharing with others; whether through handmade gifts or teaching. It is a blessing to share and inspire others to discover the world it opens! The new Janome 12000 is opening that avenue wider!

I have three Janome machines. Two are emboidery. My house is a much happier place because when I'm looking at designs, formatting a project and sewing it, or reading about and trying new tecniques I tend to forget about my fibromyalgia pain! My daughter says she can't believe how excited I get when I get the chance to learn something new! Thank you for making dreams come true!

I have been sewing since I was about 6 years old. I have several other crafts that I also do but I always go back to sewing. For me it is a very creative process. There always seems to be something new to learn or a better way to do something I have already learned. I have 3 Janome machines, the 1100SE which can do most everything I want, a 1600 which I quilt on a frame with, and a 6600 because I wanted the accufeed system. If I couldn't sew I'm sure I would be very cranky person. These machines allow me to create most every day.

Sewing/crafting are my way of relaxing, usually, and brings back memories. I learned how to sew in junior high school in home ec class, then didn't touch a sewing machine again for 20 years. 3 years ago, my mother got really sick and I told myself I could make her a lap quilt for Mother's day. It didn't matter that I had never quilted before. I bought a book, read the directions and made a 9 patch quilt. In the middle of sewing the 9 patches, I decided I needed an embroidery machine. I bought one and added some embroidered squares to the quilt. I gave it to my mom on Mother's day, she passed away 6 months later. I actually didn't touch a machine again for almost a year. Now, I try to sew something at least once a week.

To credit Janome, they brought me in with their wonderful machines. Now I get to bring joy and creativity to others as well. Thank you Janome!

A day without sewing, quilting or crafting is a wasted day for me. Although I do not consider myself very artistic, I enjoy the pleasure of creating something that I can give to others who will appreciate it! Seldom do I keep the things I make - much to the chagrin of my family.

I have a Memory Craft 10001 machine and with it I have re-learned my love of sewing. My best friend and I have been crafting together for over 30 years. We owned a craft store in the late 70's and loved everything we did. Now we are quilting, Sandy on her Janome 6600 and I quilt and embroidery on my Janome 11000. We even travel with all our stuff. We are currently in Sedona, hand quilting and planning on adding crystals to the finished project. We call it a glimpse into our retired future. We are both so lucky to have patient husbands and such a warm and loving friendship.

Sewing has always been part of my life and who I am. It is how I relaxed after work, and now that I am retired is how I spend much of my free time. Bi can not imagine not having and using my sewing machines almost daily.

I am awaiting the arrival of my new Janome MC12000. It is the third Janome sewing machine for me. Sewing has been a favorite pastime of mine since I was 10 years old, My mother got her first electric sewing machine but didn't have the patience to learn how to operate it. I did and have been sewing for 54 years. I now have the sewing/craft room of my dreams and "play" in it every day.

Crafting was just the thing for me when I couldn't sleep through the night. I would go into the playroom (my family was young then) and turn on my dream maker. I made many of my thoughts come true by self planning out a new project. I am by no means a schooled designer, as I can and do take a thought or a photo of an item and make it my own. In sewing and now quilting and embroidery, I'm able to give great fun gifts to all my family and friends. Not to mention my Etsy shop is full of fun things I've made over the years.

Sewing has always been a part of my life. My mother taught me when I was a young girl and this is a very special memory. Unfortunately, she passed away recently, but every time I sit down in at my machine I feel a little of that closeness I shared with her. Current projects include quilts for my sisters and brother made from her favorite clothing pieces.

Crafting and sewing mean the world to me since becoming disabled. It is about the only things I can do. And I love making clothes and gifts for my grandchildren, we spend most of our time together crafting and I hope one day to teach them how to sew.

I have been sewing and crafting since I was twelve years old. Since I just had my 56 birthday that is alot of years at sewing and crafting. I love my Janome sewing machines. In october of this last year I had a stroke while driving home from work. Sudeenly my world changed. But one thing that I could continue to do was to sew and craft. With the help of my husband and friends I opened up a custom quilting and clothing online shop. I give sewing lessons and yes, I even do custom embroidery and bling designs. I absolutely love crafting and sewing and it is so rewarding to teach others and to create something that you made yourself. I have three grandaughters who love their grandma to sew for them

I have just gotten a Janome and would like to get more into the embroidery system on it. I would really love, love to win a Artistic Crystals system! Sewing since I was in the 4th grade and then I picked up quilting about 15 years after that. I love all kinds of crafting. I make quilts mostly now but have a small grand daughter who would love some cute things on her shirts!

I have been sewing since I was 4 and crafting came shortly afterward. When I'm creating nothing else seems to matter...I forget everything else. I love being creative and the Artistic Crystals system would add to my creativity. I think I saw it demonstrated last year by a Janome rep at the Am. Sewing Expo in Novi, MI. It was SO cool!

It never matters what kind of day I have had, by taking time to sew, embroider or craft always relaxes and makes the day wonderful. I try to work in into as many days as I can, and of course when the woman of the house is happy, everyone is happy. The opportunity to explore more creativity with the Artistic Crystals system sounds fantastic! I look forward to discovering more about it.

Crafting means so much to me. It helps make me more creative in other aspects of my life as well. I am blessed to be able to pass on my crafting/sewing skills to my 11 year old granddaughter. I love the time I get to spend with her and we are creating not only crafts, we are creating memories, which in my opinion is priceless!

What can I say, I just love every facet of crafting. I enjoy the time I spend in my (yes my) sewing/craft room. All who enter my sewing room get drawn into the void. Even my husband now dabbles in the Air brushing and engraving. I just love seeing what I can design and then put together with my overlocker, quilting machine, embroidery machine and my free arm (what I can my everyday machine). I get a real kick out of creating with my own hands and Janome machines.
I never tire of checking out the new machines and the Janome site to see what new things I can try.
Thanks Janome.

From a very young age I created paper bag patterns which I would glued with flour & water glue. Then I would go over to the seamstress's home across the street and one day I eagerly asked her if she would let me sew. She let me hand stitch some hems and from that day I didn't look back. With a Singer hand turn I started my home economics course, then came the treddle, whew great to use both hands! After II was married my husband, who sold for Singer brought home a trade in from Singer. I thought I died and went to heaven, but in the back of my mind there was the yen for my Janome. Well just 3 years ago I bought the 11000 and a new sewing machine table with a new serger and just when I thought I was done buying, I started felting and quilting. So here I am having the time of my life. The art of creating is truly the release of my mind body and soul because when I am in my sewing room doing what I love nothing else exists.

I am a Shriner's wife and we make quilts for the Children's Shriners Hospitals as well as gowns, hats, tray favors, ditty bags, and the list goes on and on. Crafting allows me to creat for these childrens projects. It is so rewarding to see them smile as they take their quiilt and go thru their individual journeys which are filled with so many challenges. The smiles only drive you to create and sew more and more and more....

I need to create on a regular basis - for me it is therapy. Whenever I am stressed, lonely or sad, the best cure is some time in my sewing room making something. Some of my best machine quilting happens when I am mad with the world!
I don't know what I would do if I couldn't sew. Seems almost everyday I learn a new technique or see a new and better way to do make something.

I started with crafting in 2nd grade with basic knitting that my Dad taught me b/c my mom didn't have the patience to do crafts. Then, I learned hand embroidery which I still enjoy doing today since it is so portable. But, sewing was my way of saving money by making my own clothes in high school for my afterschool job. I have added to my list of crafts that I enjoy from scrapbooking to mosaic stain-glass stones to machine embroidery. I have too many ideas and not enough time since I teach science and math to high school students. I hope I live a long time so I can do all the projects that I have bought or have the instructions in a folder. Plus, I want to increase my circle of friends while learning and being inspired by others. I hope to share my joy of a project from beginning until the finished item to other crafters and especially young people. They need to understand the joy and pride of a beautifule finished project.

I have been creatating my sewing since my mother taught me to use a sewing machine. Made most of my cloths growing up, have made many things for the house to make it our home, and I like having 1 of a kind items. Mostly now I do make quilts, piece them by machine & I love to hand stitch them. Many of them become my traveling quilt, as I quilt while my husband drives to see family scattered all over the country side. When I have been sewing or quilting, my blood pressure is way low. It is so calming! Thanks to my 1st Janome, I have met many new friends. People always helping other people.

My sewing "career" started in 4H at age 10, and opened up a world of opportunities for me! Winning in local, and participating in statewide competitions taught me so much about perfection and positive self image! That confidence allowed me to sew for my family and that branched to creating wedding ensembles and alterations galore! In 1990, I began quilting and all the things I learned in clothing construction helped my creative ability to mature. It has all been made better on my 7000, 8000, 9000, 10000, and 11000! And embroidery is just the frosting on the cake! Thank you Janome for making my life so much better! No shrinks! No pent-up anxieties [ unless I don't have time to create]! Is there a 12K in my future???

I have been sewing and crafting for sixty years. I began sewing my own clothing as a teen and then for my children and home after marriage. My passion is creating beautiful and useful items for my own use and others. I love to challenge myself by studying books and being self taught when a class is not available. My goal is to learn a new skill each year. Prayer and meditation are integral to my mental and emotional well being. Sewing and crafting with my two Janome machines rank as a close second in importance to my peace and happiness.

I have such fond memories of my Grandmother teaching me how to sew, tat, rug hook and crochet. It brought such joy to my life creating with her. Crafting continues to color my life with joy, as I learn from and share with others!

There is a great feeling when I look at my fiinshed sewing/quilting project. I look at it and say "I did that with my sewing machine; I really did it". Very few things feel as good as creating with a Janome sewing machine (Janome Gem, 350E and 6260). Pure bliss-Ahhhhh!!!!

Sewing is like a lover who sweeps you off your feet, up into the many different, textures, patterns, designs of a fabric and beckons your imagination with the temptation that there is something more. It draws you in like an addiction, as you softly caress the coolness of a lightly woven cotton whose dazzling colors and seductive pattern beckons you to "take me home", Your head spins with thoughts of the many possibilities and hours of pleasure your relationship will have. In the end you will gently and sadly depart of your beloved regardless of the hours spent ripping, pressing, and resewing, into the arms of someone you know can and will love, care, and cherish the item of your affections more than you ever could. After all, sewing isn't about finishing or the end, it's about the journey, the love you found and the friendships you've made along the way.

I love crafting and sharing what I make with people just because I like to bring a smile to their face. I could not do this without my Janome Sewing machine. Today I finally received my Janome MC 9500 and am looking forward to expanding my horizons to bring more smiles to others. I am always looking to make my crafts better and explain the products I use to produce the final product. I enjoy the journey it takes me on and being able to share my love also with my daughter together!

I always loved crafting and became more attached to it, following an auto accident in 2004. Crafting helped to forget the difficulties one experiences following an accident such as I one I had, which caused me to loose my job. I am looking to see ways in which I can now turn the passion of crafting into a new career and hoping that some days soon I would be able to afford a Janome sewing machine. I love to do embroidery. I make handmade cards and various gifts items. I am doing most of my sewing by hand.
