Janome Heritage: Deluxe Model NLC

OK, so that was big sewing news from 60-odd years ago. But it was an important feature for sewists reading Life Magazine back in 1951.

This great vintage ad for the New Home Deluxe Model NLC says, "Now you can sew on and off your material, over pins and seams, foward and reverse, with any stitch at any speed--all without tangled bobbin threads and skipped stitches."

Actually that sounds pretty good for any sewing machine. The NLC had a very strong body and sturdy gear system, making it possible to sew on any kind of material. It did have only one stitch--straight--but you could use it to do many different techniques with a number of different attachments. Clothing was much more expensive back in the 50s and a good sewing machine could quickly pay for itself.

Promotional copy from another NLC ad says: "New features make your sewing smoothest, easiest ever. You get full rotary sewing, gear drive, thread-tension and stitch-length controls, wide range of speeds, sewing light and many more."

Today, if you want a sturdy Janome sewing machine with a metal body and basic stitches, try the HD1000. Or if you want the same sturdy construction with more stitches, try the HD3000. See both of them at your local Janome Dealer
