Sewn With Love: Marybeth Di Liberto

356-sewn-with-love-marybeth-di-libertoA story of college-sweethearts and Janome love.

Marybeth Di Liberto is a quilter who LOVES her Horizon 7700. She was able to use her machine to create a beautiful wallhanging to commemorate the engagement of her son and future daughter-in-law.

Using techniques she'd learned in a landscape quilting class, Marybeth re-created familiar scenes from where the couple had gone to college together.

356-sewn-with-love-marybeth-di-liberto-detailMarybeth's son Tom attended Cornell University where he majored in Atmospheric Sciences. He met and fell in love with Gretchen, another Atmospheric Sciences major. At their five year college reunion Tom proposed to Gretchen on the roof of  Bradfield Hall--the highest point on campus and the Atmospheric Sciences building.

Marybeth says, "I wanted to make something special as an engagement gift for the two of them. I had taken an Accidental Landscape class at my local quilt shop, Pieceful Quilting, and decided to personalize it for Tom and Gretchen."

She started with a landscape of Cayuga Lake, surrounded by rolling hills and vineyards. In one corner of the wallhanging she appliquéd Bradfield Hall. In another corner she appliquéd the iconic Cornell Clocktower.

"How thrilled was I when Gretchen immediately recognized the two buildings!" Marybeth says. "They loved the little wallhanging and have it proudly displayed in their apartment. Next July, they will be getting married in Sage Chapel on Cornell's campus and having their reception overlooking Cayuga Lake."

After sending us the information on her wallhanging, Marybeth sent us an additional note: "How could I forget to tell you that I am crazy about my Janome Horizon 7700!  I actually have two Janomes, the 7700 and the DC3050.  I travel with the 3050 and keep the Horizon in my sewing room.  I love them both!"

We are so glad to hear our machines played a part in such a special project. This will be a keepsake for the lucky couple to hand down to their children.

Have you sewn something recently for yourself or someone else that would make a good Sewn With Love project? We'd like to feature it here. Find out how to submit it on our Sewn With Love page.
