Sewn With Love: Anne Jordan's Family Quilt
The whole family made the squares. Anne quilted it all together with love.
We have to start this story by asking, what do you call your nephew's wife? Your niece-in-law?
Anyway, Anne Jordan wanted to do something for this special person in her life when she became pregnant for the first time. Anne got the extended family involved in creating quilt squares, which she put together into a large quilt.
To go with the quilt Anne also made some embroidered pillows with special significance for the new mom.
Anne, who is from, Hudson, OH, says that her nephew's wife had waited quite a while before getting pregnant. So her first child was an extra special event for the family.
At the baby shower last November the family members were given blank squares so that each family group could decorate one.
Anne says, "When all the blocks came back to me, I put them together using a quilt-as-you go technique on my Memory Craft 9500. The center block was embroidered with baby's name, birthday, weight and length. Since Mama is from Japan, the block from my family group (me, husband, unmarried son) was embroidered with Kokeshi and Flower Bouquet."
She used up the extra fabric by making three pillows embroidered with the Japanese good luck cat--Maneki Neko. The embroidery designs were from Embroidery Library.
What a wonderful memory for the family. And a sweet story to tell little Zen. Every time she cuddles up under the quilt, she'll remember how much she's loved.
We hope Anne's quilt, pillows and story inspire you to share your own Sewn With Love project. Find out how to submit it on our Sewn With Love page.
